Artist Fred Oldfield explores the American west and its people through his brilliant art and poignant stories. As he paints, Fred tells of the days when he and his family traveled the Northwest in a covered wagon, when he mined in the mountains for a dollar a day or went fishing on forbidden ground. Under the masterful stroke of his brush, the paintings in this series come to life, laden with history and the sparkle of his talent. Fred, part Native American and part Dutch, was raised on the Yakima Indian Reservation in Washington State. Watch the new KWSU Media series PAINTING THE WEST WITH FRED OLDFIELD, airing on KWSU-TV this month.
